2009-toyota-avensisToyotaSA, the Sabancı Holding-owned distributor of Toyota in Turkey, announced at a press conference yesterday that it will press ahead with the release of its new auto lines despite the stinging effects of the ongoing global financial crisis on the automotive sector, citing the just unveiled third generation Avensis as an example of its strategy.

The car, appealing to the D segment market, features an advanced hybrid gasoline and electricity-powered engine design that dramatically cuts emissions and increases fuel efficiency. Emphasizing the environmental benefits of the car and Toyota’s future target to build 1 million hybrid cars in the coming years, ToyotaSA General Manager İbrahim Orhan said, “In light of the global financial crisis and, even more importantly, global warming, Toyota’s release of the new Avensis highlights the importance of Toyota’s dedication to environmental concerns.”

The new Avensis comes with several engine options: a 1.6 or 2.0 gas engine or a 2.0D-4D diesel option. According to figures provided at the event, the gas-fueled 1.6-liter engine starts at TL 51,400 and the 2.0 liter diesel engine starts at TL 79,900.
