Neil Young’s plans to convert his beloved 1959 Lincoln Continental from a gas-guzzler into a fuel-efficient hybrid have gone up in smoke, along with roughly $850,000 in his possessions, reports the Associated Press.

According to officials, the LincVolt, which underwent a much-publicized makeover — there was a Web site, Lincvolt.com, and a four-part film series — caught on fire and triggered a blaze that spread throughout the San Francisco Bay area warehouse where the songwriter had been storing valuables and memorabilia.

Fire crews were able to save about 70 percent of the goods, but the car was damaged.
