Beijing to Spend US$190 Million on Electric and Hybrid buses

hybrid-busBeijing is going to spend 1.3 billion yuan (US$190.50 million) for the purchase of 50 electric buses and 860 hybrid ones in 2009 for public traffic, according to sources with BEIJING PUBLIC TRANSPORT HOLDINGS LTD. By the end of this year, there will be 1,000 new energy buses in service for public traffic in the city.

* As required by the Ministry of Science and Technology, ten big cities in the country should each have 1,000 new energy buses in three years.

* Beijing Public Transport Holdings entered into an agreement with Beiqi Foton earlier this year, to purchase 800 hybrid buses from the automaker.
