Japan’s government is considering subsidizing purchases of environmentally friendly cars, the Nikkei newspaper reported today.
The government may offer 200,000 yen ($1,994) to buyers of hybrid or electric vehicles as well as gasoline- and diesel- engine cars that satisfy certain emission standards, the Japanese-language newspaper said without citing anyone. A buyer can get 300,000 yen if they switch from a car that has been used for 13 years or longer, the Nikkei said.
The subsidy will be introduced before summer and remain in place until March 2010, the newspaper reported.
